digital storytelling

Digital Storytelling is the meeting point between the age- old art of storytelling and access to powerful technology that is easy to learn and use. Stories have been used throughout history and by all cultures to pass on important knowledge. With the coming on of inexpensive digital video cameras, easy to use software, DVDs, and the Internet we can now tell, capture and publicize our stories in new ways and to a broader population.

Digital storytelling is another way of using computer-based tools to tell stories. Most digital stories focus on a specific topic and a particular point of view. Digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and or music. Most of the storeis used in education typically last between two and ten minutes. The stories range from personal tales to recounting of historical events, from looking into one's life from their own community to the search for life in other parts of the world. These stories are done by using slidecasts which have access to audio and slideshares and voice thread.

Students can create slides of animals going through lifecycles by using images or an animal telling about his life by using voice thread. A student can have a picture of the animal that they will be researching and include voice as if the animal is narrating his own life. Digital storytelling engages the students and they have fun with it.

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to leave comments in a variety of ways by using voice, text, audio file, or video. http://voicethread.com/about/

Slidecasts, slideshares and voice threads engages the students and supports learning inside and outside the classroom.
